Assignments

To help you emerge as a confident writer, a set of assignments outlined below is created to enable you to practice all stages of the writing process and to advance your observing, researching, time-management, and critical thinking skills.

Short Papers

Each of the three Short Paper assignments is broken into two stages and graded separately. These stages include:

Short Paper: Outline* (each worth 5% of your final grade)
Short Paper: Final Draft* (each worth 10% of your final grade)

* 3% of the grade per day will be deducted for each assignment submitted after the deadline (this includes weekends). Rewrites submitted after the deadline will be rejected.

The purpose of this arrangement is to support your understanding of the writing process and to help you to develop planning, editing, and revising habits. One rewrite of each stage will be allowed. You are expected to write your final drafts based on your graded outlines.

Term Paper

The Term Paper assignment is broken down into two parts:

Term Paper (Outline) * 10 % of your final grade

Term Paper (Final Draft)  25 % of your final grade

The Outline will prepare you to write the final draft of a larger-scale research paper, meet the deadline, and manage your time. Three rewrites of the Outline will be allowed. Rewriting the Final Draft will not be permitted.  Late submissions of Term Paper (Final Draft) will not be allowed.

*3% of the grade per day will be deducted for the Outline submitted after the deadline (this includes weekends). Rewrites submitted after the deadline will be rejected.

Online Participation

(20% of your final grade)

Online class participation will be graded based on your submission on the Bb Discussion Board, completion of Study-guide Tests, and activity in your Study Group. You will receive a 100 % if there is a Bb record of your activity or a 0% if you fail to submit by the end of the weekly module. Extensions or late submissions will not be allowed.

Class participation fosters teamwork and boosts your public speaking skills. It also helps you understand your audience, effectively manage time, and meet deadlines.
